Gordy Hoffman & Philip Seymour Hoffman — brothers and collaborators. Pictured here around the time they made the remarkable, award winning LOVE LIZA

It appears the news coming out of New York is true. Philip Seymour Hoffman has died. It is a shocking and sad piece of news to receive. It is a loss that will reverberate with great sadness for those closest to him for years to come. Family, friends and fans alike will mourn his loss and celebrate his life from now on. It is of little comfort today but not too long from now we will be encouraged by his great body of work.

On a personal note, I’m hurting today for a friend. Gordy Hoffman was just with us in Little Rock for a one day BlueCat screenwriting workshop that I was honored to host. Gordy is a true friend to filmmakers and an inspiring filmmaker himself. He is a tireless champion for the art form and for artists. He’s the kind of guy you want on your side. Today, he’s mostly on my heart as a fellow human who is experiencing great loss. I know that small group of writers we hosted two weeks ago joins me in grieving with Gordy and the rest of the family.
